Whatever your career stage, you will undoubtedly have experienced situations where conflicts or disagreements arise in the workspace.

The ROOT & SHOOT RCN is partnering with Dra. Laura Minero, a licensed clinical psychologist, to offer an online training course that is designed to help plant biologists communicate more effectively.

This course will help you learn how to manage these conflicts more effectively. You’ll learn strategies and skill that help you practice active listening and assertive communication, how to identify and acknowledge your feelings, and how to address power dynamics.

This course comprises of three live training sessions (1-1.5-hour virtual live sessions), which will integrate evidence-based communication strategies with emotional intelligence frameworks and practical trauma-informed, justicecentered exercises tailored toward effective scientific collaboration and discourse.

Each session will provide opportunities for discussion, skill-building, and reflection, empowering participants to navigate professional and personal interactions with greater empathy, clarity, and efficacy. The course is designed for both leadership and those in subordinate positions, ensuring that cultural shifts towards deeper connections, sense of belonging, and diverse inclusivity occur at all levels within the plant science community.

We are reaching out to gauge interest in this training. If we proceed, the sessions will begin in September. Please use this form to indicate your interest and provide any questions and comments by July 18, 2025.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Marcia Puig-Lluch, ROOT & SHOOT Program Facilitator, at marcia@rootandshoot.org.
