The ROOT & SHOOT RCN has funds to support two student/early career scientists to attend SACNAS National Diversity in STEM (NDiSTEM) Conference Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, 2024 in Phoenix, AZ.

We ask that these volunteers spend time staffing the ROOT & SHOOT booth, answering questions about the RCN, the affiliated professional societies, and sharing opportunities to get involved. You can learn more about ROOT & SHOOT’s previous exhibit booth on our blog.

The exhibit hall will be open on Thursday, October 31 from 10am-5pm and Friday, November 1 from 9am-5pm. Volunteers should plan to staff at the booth for a minimum of five hours on Thursday and five hours on Friday.

ROOT & SHOOT will cover travel, lodging, meals, and other allowable expenses affiliated with attending the conference, as well as provide a stipend for the volunteer’s time. Two things to note:

  • ROOT & SHOOT will cover three nights of hotel (Wednesday – Saturday). Additional hotel nights will be at the participant’s expense.
  • We will also cover an exhibitor registration, which is limited to the exhibition hall. You’re welcome to attend the full conference, however if you’d like to upgrade from an exhibitor registration to a full registration, we will only cover up to the value of the exhibitor pass.

All funds will be provided on a reimbursement basis. If booking a flight, we require that all volunteers use Direct Travel (instructions will be sent upon notification). Volunteers must also stay within the conference room block.

The deadline to apply for this opportunity is Friday, August 23, 2024. We will inform participants if they are selected the week of August 26. Please use this link to apply: https://forms.gle/GWVw1npncj4MZuaeA

If you have any questions, please contact Marcia Puig-Lluch, Program Facilitator, at marcia@rootandshoot.org.

We will have a similar opportunity available for the MANRRS39 Annual Training Conference and Career Expo April 2-6, 2024 in Memphis, TN. Applications for this conference will open early next year.
